how much horsepower?

I am looking for a 305 to go in my 79 monza and i found a 305 from an 86 caprice. Can anyone tell me how much horsepower this engine would make? and are there any known problem areas with this engine such as things that are known to go wrong or cetrain parts that are very power restrictive? any info would be helpful, thanks

I think the 305 has 170 bhp. I don't know about specific problems of that engine.

Re: how much horsepower?

84 H-engine was rated at 145
85 H-engine was rated at 150

The engine is practically bulletproof, but water pumps on mine lasted about 75k miles.

Re: how much horsepower?

Not too much power... 150-160 horses, but they're really long lasting. A life span of a 305, if it hadn't been hammered is around 225,000 miles. Theres been cases were they've gone nearly 350,000 before dying.
