Re: crankshaft pulley bolt

On all of the 2 liter motors it turns the usual way, counterclockwise. I would expect the 1.8 to be the same. But its set to 80 foot pounds, and can be a bitch to get off. Its easiest to loosen it when the tranny and motor are still in the car, so you can put it in gear and use the tires to hold the motor. I've also put a breaker bar against the ground and bumped the starter to break it free, but try that one at your own risk If the motor is on a stand, I stick a bar in the crank counter weights if the oil pan is off, its I dont want to remove it I put two flywheel bolts in the crank and put a bar between those. Etc.

Edit> For the sake of using proper terminology, the crank pulley is what drives the accessories, and is held on with 4 12mm bolts. The large center bolt holds on the crank sprocket.

Re: crankshaft pulley bolt

I have an Impact gun, and I have never used it for the crank sprocket bolt. I save it for the bolts that are actually hard to get off And no one said it turns the other way, so I don't know who you are talking to when you say "u guys are all wrong."
