whiper problems

Just wanna know something... this morning, I started my car (-30c outside).. let the car warm up a bit then go for a ride.. as I come to use my whipers, the whipers stopped after they move for a inch... after its all warmed up.. everything works fine.. any similar problems?? if so, what's the fix?

Katana,
Did you notice whether BOTH wipers moved when you first turned them on, or just one?

Re: whiper problems

If it hasn't happened again, I would guess the intermittent windshield wiper (on the stalk) was not making full contact.

Re: whiper problems

only when its very very cold outside.. otherwise, its fine.. but its not the first time the problem occured.. you're talking about something making not the proper contact.. what is this?

Katana1981,
The windshield wiper control (stalk L/H side of steering wheel) has several different speeds i.e. slow, medium, fast and also interval modes for light rain or drizzle. Each one of these positions has a set of two electrical contacts which must make 'contact' to work properly.
The windshield wiper motor have built-in limit switches that allow the wiper arms to 'park' at the bottom of the windshield every time the wipers are shut off. The limit switch has voltage to it whenever the ignition switch is turned 'On' and may cause the wipers to 'jump' slightly the next time the ignition switch is turned on depending, on their position and whether the wiper switch was turned off before the ignition switch. It's possible that the wiper arms mechanism is binding and not allowing the wiper to stop in the correct 'Park' position. (It would be more apt to occur in cold weather) Check for binding linkage, and pivots. Lubricate the linkage/pivots.
