Exclamation Do you know....

I've been lurking this message board for three months and after reading post after post I decided that it was time for me to get a freakin bad ass 180sx. I ordered a car from japan and the boat its on is not going to to reach the Bahamas until feburary 26. Waiting sucks so I thought that if any one would know if i'm getting a good 180sx it would be yall. Can u tell me if i have a good car to work on or if the engine in it sucks.

Is it ka24e or ka24de?

This was all the info i got from the japanese dude who i bought it from:
Make: Nissan
Model: 180sx
Grade: Turbo
Year: 1990
Chassis: RS13
Trans: 5MT
Odo(km): 108,500
CC: 1800
Selling Point: 17inch AW, TURBO Timer, Sun Roof, TURBO
And then some pictures. click on these links to check them out.
exterior

engine

interior

I know this might be allot of questions but i'm a newbe and I can't wait to learn all the stuff yall know. Hopefully i will learn this stuff when i get my car.

Re: Do you know....

In japan the 180sx did not come with either the ka24e or ka24de. The engine in the pics looks like a ca18det, which is a dual over head cam turbo charged engine found in japan. Looks like a sweet car though, just make sure you put the highest octane gas in it as in japan they use higher octane than us.

man thats a pretty car.
as for the engine, you sir have a CA18DET, those are only found in Japan so congrats, its somewhat rare. i myself don't know shit aobut it besides it's a turboed 1.8L inline 4. its turbo, so its gotta be good for some decent numbers, i'm sure someone on this board will be able to give you more advice on that engine. as for the other parts, 108,000km is under 100,000 miles, which RARE as hell for that year of a car, by the looks of it you've found urself a gem, you lucky bastard you, lol.

Thax man. I bought it for $3660 with shipping and customs tax which i think is a good deal. So it's a CA18DET is that better or worse than a ka-t i mean how much hp does it have. Will i be able to find parts for this engine.Any one knows what whp means.

Re: Do you know....

WHP is wheel horsepower. It is the amount of horsepower you have at the wheels, instead of at the crank. Manufacturer specs list horsepower at the crank, which is always higer than the whp.

Re: Do you know....

It's like 180 crank horsies, it has a timing belt instead of a chain (SR and KA have chains) which some will say is worst then chain because there's more chance that it will slip, but I dunno. 9000RPM redline, sweet engine, and sweet car.

Re: Do you know....

Yeah, very cool. Congrats!
I wish they would have shipped that car/engine to the States!
That seems like a great deal shipping included!

Re: Do you know....

Are their any sites like phatka-t.com and boostdesigns.com for the ca18det where i can get good affordable parts from? Or are parts for the ca18det hard to find.

Re: Do you know....

i think there a little bit more harder to find....since most people swap in the sr20 over the ca18 in the states. But im sure you can find parts for it somewhere. You might have to special order some parts from companies. I would suggest that you call up some companies and see what they can do for you.

Re: Do you know....

We have no laws or restrictions on cars in the bahamas as long as they have working brake lights, head lights and all its rear view mirrors, and you pay for your lincence and insurance you are free to drive it. we also have no emission laws or age limit on our cars which is hopefully good for me because i can take anything off of my car that may restrict power to meet emission standards if any such parts exsists(please tell me if their are so i can take it off when i get my car). having no restrictions on cars on the road may sound good but it isn't good when you occasionally run into a shitty bus or car in traffic and have to inhale the black smoke and carbon monoxide its spitting out for a hour while trying to get to work or school.
btw why can't u guys import cars from japan and legalise them like my 180sx.
