94 trans am with lots of problems....i need your help.

my driver side window has a hard time going up and down. its electric. it ussually goes down with no problem, but when i push the button for it to start going up again it will only go up a few inches, then i have to wait a couple mins before i can roll it up a couple inches again. might it be the fuse?

also my door has a hard time unlocking. it can turn the key and its really hard to turn it and often when i hear a little click i assume its unlocked, but its still locked. it usually takes me a few mins just to get inside the car. and one know how i can fix that? i read on a diffrent thread that i should be able to just put WD-40 in the locks, but i figured i'd ask to make sure.

i also need a new starter and does anyone know how much that'll cost and about how much might labor be?

plus it idles very very low. its only pulling about 500RPM. i don't know if that normal for this car, but every car i've ever drove before idles around 1000rpm.

yeah pretty much everything that you can possibly think of on this car is kinda broken, but what can you exspect for $2200. thanks for helping.

The window issue sounds like either a failing switch or most likely a dying motor(especially since rolling it up causes it to fail). The motor will overheat and stop after a few secconds and then won't work for a few minutes untill it cool off. If it is the motor don't but one from a dealer, they cost more, and have a short waranty. Buy one from autozone, they cost less and have a lifetime warranty. Usually a fuse is all or nothing, not partially working. It's easy to replace and costs about $50-$60, here's a guide on replacing the motor: http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor.html

While you have the door cover off for the window you might want to check and lubricate the locking mechanism and inspect if for damage, not sure exactly what lubricant would work best tho.

Autozone lists a starter for $119.99 with a $60.00 core charge if you plan on doing it yourself. If you have one installed i don't know what a shop would charge for the starter/labor.

Is your car manual or auto? The ilde for a manual is about 950, I think it's lower than that for an auto but not sure how much lower.

Re: 94 trans am with lots of problems....i need your help.

has the car been wrecked? Check the inside of the door i.e. window tracks, window sissor arms, and lock linkages to make sure they are not bent before you dump alot in the door it should be obvious if it has been straightened or repaired before. these cars seem to make it into alot of wrecks. other than that go with chickenkickers advice. use white lithium grease in side the door and lock linkages for lubrication. only use graphite dust lubricant in the lock itself don't use wd-40 it will catch dirt and dust and jam up the cylinder inside the lock body over time

The switch is cheap and easy enough to replace I would just replace it first. However, I had a '94 T/A with the same exact problem and it was the motor overheating and having to cool down before working again. Good luck in either case.

Go to GMpartsdirect.com (I think that's the site) and buy the switches. I just did that. All I needed was the plastic button and this site made buying the whole switch cheap enough
