Question 1998 KIA Sportage HUB ???

1998 KIA Sportage HUB ???
What are my choices to replace vacuum hubs? I live in the northeast and they never work when I need them too.
Can I use 1997 and earlier auto mechanical?
And how do I clean vacuum hubs seal to get it to work for now?

"Cleaning" the hub seals will go nowhere..too cold..and also, the solenoid valve
http://www.geocities.com/lmp4203/kiasport/DSCN2448s.JPG

itself gets frozen either closed, open, or somewhere in between....no good.

Best before changing them is to invert the position of the spring in the vacuum hubs. DOne easily: take them off (6 bolts), remove ring clip and tke pieces off keeping them in proper order, and when you have the piston off, put the spring back in then piston and all the rest.

THis is exactly like putting "manuals" ON: the shafts will keep rotating with the drag tha t goes with it, but they will work and as soon as you shift the TCase in 4wd, you'll have it.

THe automechanical are available from WARN as part number
61918. THis is a KIT and involves the spindle nut, locking key, cam assembly and hub. INstallation manual here:
www.geocities.com/lmp4203/hubinstall.pdf

Someone on this forum got them for about $120 pair lately. I'll look for the thread...
come back if need more info

solenoid valve works fine and right hub also.
But we are having a heck of a snow storm so I switched piston and springs around and it works great.
Thank You LMP

There is no direct damage that would result from this: you are just paying some more fuel to keep all of that in motion. Of course, maybe the rubber booths around the CV joints will rotate and flex a little more that they would otherwise in 2WD, just like with manuals in ON position ,...that's all.

Re: 1998 KIA Sportage HUB ???

OK I read this is what it means for KIA (acceleration module signal low)!

In the generic code list 1308 stands for A/C clutch fault....
http://www.geocities.com/lmp4203/Malfunct.PDF
but codes 1000 and up can be assigned by the manufacturer....

I have no additional info but I 'm asking others.....I'll be back with more info...

EDIT:
http://www.geocities.com/lmp4203/kia...Obd2_Codes.PDF

chassis acceleration sensor : It's bolted to the frame just to the right of the passenger side strut tower. You may have to pull the battery and move cabling and the evap cannister to see it.

A section of the shop manual with a photo coming soon.......
