Question Exhuast Pricing

Spring is right around the corner... (I say this as there is several blizzard warnings here in Chicago). Spring is when I put my exhaust on... and Im still undecided on what to get.

I decided to pass on the header. Stock one should do fine, right? I went to a muffler shop (Fair Mufflers), and asked about a full system. They quoted me a MagnaFlow system, (header, performance cat, cat-back, new everything), for $1600. TOO MUCH. Now, Im thinking of just getting the back pipe and cat conv and cat back. No header. How much should this cost? One place wanted to replace everything with all custom work for $700... including header. Is this too cheap? What's the most I should pay for custom work?

Also, what is better metal to use? I forget what the shops said they use (alumimuim?). What is better? Would it be better to buy everything seperate, like name-brand stuff, and just get that installed?

THANKS!!

Re: Exhuast Pricing

hmm....700.00 definetly isn't "too cheap". I got my full turbo back (with ported o2 housing) for 500.00.
And on my old GS I got a custom catback stainless steel system for like 300.00 (done well). I would guess you could get a full exhaust system for 500-600 bux and still have a quality system.

Re: Exhuast Pricing

they usually use 2 different types of metal for exhausts. aluminized steel and stainless steel. stainless is better but it costs more. some places also offer ceramic coated which is even better but costs a lot.

Re: Exhuast Pricing

my exhaust system on my gs consist of a hp racing 2.5" catback that costed me about 325 i think and a tsudo header i paide 150 on. basically after it was all said and done i had a decent quality full 2.5" exhaust system under $500. Im on my stock cat now but im going to a 2.5" test pipe until next echeck. I can't say enough of the hp exhaust. Its good quality with great fitment and awsome sound all for a decent price. I would recomend it to anyone... peace

Got the header and test pipe from ebay. Got the catback from tuningdepot.com they matched the ebay price and gave me cheaper shipping.

Custom build ones are fine. Just get stainless piping, mandrel bent, a good sounding muffler.

i paid 160 for my cat back exhaust at a local shop..mine is cheap though. No mandrel bends and aluminum. It was cheap and good for now. i might be getting a used turbo back off some grl for very very cheap but I wouldnt pay no more then 220 for cat back with mendral bends. I'd buy the muffler and cat on your own.
Go with a GOOD local exhaust shop...its just as good.

what im about to do is get a full 3" inch turbo-back from one of the DSM specific brands ($600-700) and then just replace the muffler with an N1 for better sound.
