WHY?!!! S13,14,15?! 240's? wtf?!

I've always known Silvia's to be S13,14,15's....but everyone's call 240SX's by these names depending on their generation. WTF?! Can SOMEONE PLEASE help me with this?! I thought 240's were 240's and Silvias were the S13/14/15's. I'm sick of seein S13 and tryin to figure out if they're talkin bout Silvia's or 240's... HELP!!!!!!!!!

Re: WHY?!!! S13,14,15?! 240's? wtf?!

they're the same shit. they just didn't call them silvia's here cuz the name wouldn't go over so well. that's why we don't call 300zx's and 350z's fairlady's like they do in japan. S13(89-94), 14(95-98) and 15('99)are just ways of noting the generation, it's applicable to both vehicles and I'm pretty sure it's just the chassis code.

Japan and America just don't seem to agree on what to call the same damn car. The Silvia/240SX/whatever is the same car, just called different in different places. Just like the new Skyline in Japan is the Infiniti G35 Coupe in America, and the new Honda Integra in Japan is the Acura RSX in America. Why can't we just agree on one name?

you could just go into the 240SX forum on AF and read our FAQ...

but here's a truncated break-down.

S13 Silvia = 1989-1994. available in Japan only, 2-door body style, or convertable. has fixed front lights.

S13 180SX = 1989-1996. available in Japan, NZ and some other places. 3-door hatchback. flip up front lights.

S13 240SX = 1989-1994. available in 3-door hatchback (same as 180SX) or 2-door coupe (same as S13 only instead of fixed lights, we got flip-ups on the coupe as well) OR convertable in 1994 only. the main difference between OUR S13 240SX's and THEIR S13 Silvia's and 180SX's are the engines. they got the CA18DET 1.8 litre turbo from '89-90, then got the SR20DET 2.0 litre turbo from then on. all we got was the KA24E SOHC 2.4 NA from 89-90, then the KA24DE DOHC 2.4 NA from '91 on.

our S14's were visibly exactly the same as their S14's, only again we got shafted on the engines and got the KA24DE, and ours were called 240SX's instead of Silvia's.

S15 Silvia was only available in Japan and some other parts of the world (under the name 200SX). North America did not get it.

so basically, the S13/14/15 just denotes the chassis code. every time the chassis is updated, the number increases by one digit.

i'm going to close this thread, but if you need anymore info, feel free to PM me or come take a peek at the FAQ in the 240SX/Silvia forum under "Nissan".
