2nd gear anyone??

Well, it's been minus 1000 outside forever now, and when I leave my igloo to get into my 95 sunfire, I encounter a few problems.
The car runs through the gears just fine when it's not running, but is next to impossible to shift (and getting harder everyday) when I am driving.... which is kind of when you need to shift most!
So for the most part I just drive around in 2nd gear, and turn the car off if I need to back up, then on and off again to move forward. 2nd works fine since it's impossible to go faster than 40km/hr with the snow here, but there's another funny coincidence...
This evening I drove home from work without touching the gas pedal once. And get this... no matter how fast I let the clutch out (in 2nd gear, without any gas) she will not stall! Not that I want her to, but still... it's weird.
Clearly my car hates the cold weather as much as we all do, but I can't wait till spring and just hope my frigid Black Betty comes around.
What's up and how much is it gonna cost me??

Your clutch sounds like it may be on it's way out. I'm assuming from what you are saying that it's manual. Either that or the fluid is low! If it wont stall at all then it's slipping! so it,s bad pressure or bad clutch or pressure plate!
