Infinity stereo sytem speakers

my speakers in my 1998 durango are shot. i want to install new speakers but i want to install standard speakers. is this a problem? do i have to install speakers compatable to infinity system? please advise as to what to do.

No, any speaker will work. If you have the 6 speaker system you do not need to have a separate tweeter (which needs a crossover). The Infinity Reference series has a component system (one that has a separate tweeter, and comes with crossovers) that works perfectly as the front speakers, but runs about $200. The only thing special about the stock Infinity system is that it has a separate amp instead of being inside the receiver. If you were to replace the stock stereo you would have to bypass the amp locate behind the passenger cowl side trim.
