Astronomical Shipping Rates

Astronomical shipping rates piss me off. I find some good tools, weigh a few 100lbs and I pay almost pay as much for shipping as I do the machine. It pisses me off.

Just venting...

Re: Astronomical Shipping Rates

Well, it costs money to get it to you. The company has to pay a driver, gas, wear and tear on the truck, etc.

Shipping rates depends on alot of things, weight, dimensions, materials, location of sender and reciever, country of manufacture, method of shipping, tranportation mode, duty fees, service fees for processing paperwork, shipping company used, just to name a few off the top of my head. If you could give us more details i can tell you if you got fucked on the shipping or not. Yes shipping rates can be expencive but if you know what your doing you can screw the carriers royally

Re: Astronomical Shipping Rates

I guess I'll explain the post count thing. Long story short, Igor thought it would be funny to play a couple jokes on me.

I know that the shipper needs to pay for fuel, labor, so on and so forth. I was just venting because I hate shipping. $150 for a 290lb lathe pissed me off. I know its accurate...but it annoys me.

Just venting.

Re: Astronomical Shipping Rates

Definitely shop around a bit, you might be able to do better. (Some companies will take bulk shipments from several people to make a load, and pass some of the savings to you.)

Re: Astronomical Shipping Rates

back when DHL wasn't merged with Airborne Express and they were a smaller business-only type company, I was looking to ship a bunch of body kits for my business. I set up this account with them and everything, took forever, had to send all sorts of info. The way I did things was ALWAYS just make one sample buy or sell. if someone wanted to sell me 100 of something, send me 1 first. So I want to send a body kit out to my customer - I tell the lady the dimentions of the box and the weight. And anybody seen a body kit box, the things are pretty damn big. So she says "well the DIMENTIONAL weight of the box is 374.8 Pounds, so that would make your shipping $350". I'm like "WHAT?! the BODY KIT, the ACTUAL FUCKING WEIGHT is 20# altogether. you can't charge me for 'dimentional' vs 'actual'!!!" And i get all indignant and demand the manager. im pissed. ive got a dozen body kits to send out and no way to send them and DHL was highly recommended by my friend. The shipping was more than the kit was! and shipping was SUPPOSED to be $100. I wouldn't do biz with them and ended up with another co. huge hassle, pain in my ass. they'll try and screw you like that ALL the time. they're better now that they'er public, but still...

i feel yer pain.

I just checked DHL. They quoted 95# at $48. Do I have to sign up to get a shipment, or does the shipper have to?
