white letters on tires

i am trying to put white letters on my tires. they have the raise part already but I want to paint them white. They came with decals for them but they just rip in half. The scale is 1:25. does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me?

Re: white letters on tires

White acrylic paint and a toothpick to apply the paint (only acrylic paint dries on the tires).
White gel marker.
Search feature.

I've heard good things about the white gel marker/pens.

I have tried to paint the letters before but its hard to make it look really crisp on the letters. everything i try seems to run over the sides of the letters a hair. do you use a magnifying glass to paint or something?

Re: white letters on tires

A little offtopic, but also not; I use white ink shot through a airbrush to paint whitewalls on slicks e.t.c. But you should rough-up the surface with steelwool or 1200 sandpaper, otherwise the ink has a tendency to "pearl". Think if you roughen the letters ( coarsest polishing cloth) the white should stick better and not run all over the tire!

Sometimes you can turn the tires around so the inside faces out, and often there is no raised lettering on that one side, so it is easier to apply the decals... - Mark

Re: white letters on tires

A trick I haven't tried in small-scale, but that was recommended for 1/10th scale R/C tires, if you use a cigarette to paint the raised lettering on a tire's sidewall. This could work with something smaller for 1/25th tires. Maybe a Q-tip stem snipped flush?

Put less paint on the brush , it may take more than one coat

I believe that is one of the kits you can turn the tires around on. - Mark
