'97 - engine dies while idling at low RPMs

The problem is that the engine dies while idling at low RPMs like 600-650. Engine just cuts off on stop lights or whatever when I the car is standing still. It doesn't do it all the time or right a way, still very frequently. I am able to restart right away. If I let it idle for some time, it dies like in 10 mins or at times even much sooner after engine heats up and lowers its RPMs to 600+ range.

I am not sure if it is an electrical problem since radio continues to play and dash lights are on and everything but I guess I can't know exactly. On the other hand, I don't think it is the fuel delivery problem because I am able to restart the engine with no problems at the first turn of the key when it dies. If there was some fuel "gap" then I think it would take me longer to start the car again. Similarly, I don't think it is air flow problem since I took off the air tube housing off and it died while it was getting air directly to the air nozzle in the engine block, I had my hood up while it was idling. Battery is 1 year old and it reads 12.2V when engine off, should it read higher?

Could it be that bad fuel can't give enough power to propel engine at low RPMs?

Any comments, please, I will take anything.

I would check the computer codes to see if any were set.
