Help! my horn only works when it feels like it
I have 96' Chrysler T&C 3.8 liter. Help!! My horn is not working now but sometimes is does. AS do the wipers. Is this somehow related? I need to get it inspected this week and need the horn for that. Are these both tried into some kind of central module, which is replaceable? I just can't afford a big repair bill just now. Can I do this or is this a dealer thing? I have a good auto electrical shop not far from me. Any help would me appreicated. Thanks

Re: Help! my horn only works when it feels like it
You can try something. Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds and reconnect it. There is a Body Control Module (BCM) that I know controls the wipers, and may also have something to do with the horn. Doing this will reset the BCM.

Had a problem with dashlights and disconnecting batery worked. I didn't take any chances though...I left it disconnected for 10 minutes to make sure all modules bled down.

Defective clocksprings are responsible for a variety of malfunctions including horns that don't honk, wipers that don't wipe, the ABS light that stays on all the time, cruise control issues and possibly more. |

In addition to these other suggestions, if they dont work, check for a bad ground. There is one from the (-) post of the battery to the body. This needs to be a good, clean contact. Also, there are central ground posts on each side of the van under the hood/fender area and the same under the dash. If its the clockspring (thats in the steering wheel), try holding on the horn while turning the steering wheel. If the horn works at a certain turn of the wheel, then I would guess the clockspring is faulty. The air bag and cruise control are also hooked through this. If they are working fine (no airbag light on or cruise works fine) then I would guess the clockspring is fine. They are a recall item if it is faulty.
