1988 Bronco II transmission problems

hey all,

I have a 1988 bronco II EB edition with some issues (ha). It started out with my speedometer bouncing and then my overdrive shifting in and out, even my cruise control went out. Please advise.....I'v already bought 2 1988 bronco II's to part out and fix my EB, but is it necessary to put the tranny out and put a standard tranny in. I've noticed too that the 5 speeds are different in each of the 2 bronco II I'm using for parts.

thanks in advance

Huh.. My 1988 Ranger has a Vss (Vehical speed sensor). From your symptoms, it sounds like this went bad. From what I've read, some have the VSS and some don't. I know mine does because I recently converted to MAF, I wouldn't doubt yours has it too. It might not be the problem though, just a thought.

Could be your speedometer pinion gear mounted on your tranny, or transfer case, our your speedometer cable may have a problem, I had a camero that the cable seemed to have shortened, and quit making contact on one end with the cruise sensor. The speedometer bounced up and down a lot before it quit totally.
