Towers of Light

I was gonna post this in the WTC Tragedy forum but it looks like it's gone.

This was on CNN.com. Where the twin towers of the WTC once stood, 2 towers of light shine in their memory.

the lights are so bright, you can see them in outer space and for 20 mile radius outside the actual beams of light. They are so powerful they can light 3 million homes or something like that.

I'll check them out first-hand tomorrow evening, as I'll be down in the city (unfortunately for a funeral - my friend's dad died from lung cancer, a grim reminder to you smokers ). I am looking forward to seeing them. Thanks for the list of good vantage points, Kat

You're welcome JD

Sorry about your friend's dad...I lost my dad to the same thing 7 years ago, but he worked with asbestos.

If you have a digicam, can you get some pics of them and post for us? I know alot of news sites have good pics of it, but I also like to see what I call "civilian pics" from an everyday person's point of view

Hmmm... actually not very bright from the rooftop of the parents' building. I expected it to be a little more sensational. Unfortunately, I haven't got a digital camera, but my dad snapped off a couple pictures with his "old-fashioned" camera. If they come out good, I'll try to post them. But something like this doesn't usually come out very well on film, and since from here it's not all that spectacular seeing it live, I don't imagine that by not posting the pics you'll be missing much. However, my mom and I are going to head down to the Empire State Building later tonight to check out how they look from the observation deck.

As an aside (follow up to my first post in this thread), the ceremony today (for my friend's dad) was very moving. I probably haven't cried that much since a friend of mine died back in 1998.

Here's a couple more pics. These were taken by a guy over on the Neons.org board. He took these from the New Jersey waterfront. The first pic is a 2 second exposure and then second pic is a 4 second exposure. The skyline is stunning, but so empty without the towers
