Which CAI is the best?

I am about to purchase a CAI system and see 3 choices...

SLP, Thrasher Engineered Performance and Motorsports Performance.

I am installing this on a 98 GTP so I know I will have to relocate the coolant bottle. I also would like a tray to remount the PCM. My other concern is the IAT. I cannot tell by the pictures and written information if they all address these in their kits. It appears that the Thrasher and Motorsports kits do have the PCM tray. Does the SLP?

Also.. If I add a CAI now and later install a Ram Air hood, can they SLP and Thrasher be converted? I see the Motorsports does have a different lid that can be purchased.

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

It appears that the Thrasher and Motorsports kits do have the PCM tray. Does the SLP?

SLP has the PCM in the stock location.

We just went thru this not to long ago and it's really up to what you want.....a few here have thrasher,Ive got the MSP.There is also one from ZZP called the Wizair.It's which ever design you like the most.

I own the Thrasher. And like it a lot.
The Thrasher doen't have a PCM tray. It goes on a pc of rubber under the bottom of the cold air box. It is the only change I would make. They can be bought from a couple sites.
Big-L I know likes his a lot. Don't think he would change his either.

My Thrasher came with an aluminum cover for the PCM. The CAI box mounts to the top of the PCM cover with a large VELCRO® pad. Makes removal of the CAI box (for filter cleaning and engine compartment detailing) really easy.

Your choice should be based upon three factors:
1) Your budget
2) Your long term performance goals (1/4 mile times)
3) Your aesthetical preferences

Mine only has rubber, no Velcro pad. Sure, you got the good one.

Here is some Info on a Ram Air hood that Jim Wierzbicki tested at ZZP

I've personally tested a ram air hood (SLP) and determined with out any doubt that there are NO performance gains to be had with the hood AND actually hurts your performance if connected up to a good CAI induction system. The reasons are many why this is the case. The biggest reasons are the air passages are too convoluted and small to allow the increase in static pressure (caused by higher velocity air slowing down upon entering the hood scoops) to overcome the large air flow resistance in the hood ducting. Also, the hood's air ducting is heated greatly by the engine bay heat and therefore heats the air as it makes its way to the exit port. Thus, the hood is spilling heated air into what should be a CAI.

Despite the SLP Ram Air hood, or any other ram air hood, not benefiting the engine's performance. THEY DO LOOK DAMN SWEET ON THE CAR. Therefore, buy it for how it looks and not the way it works.

Question

There is no such thing as ram air on a forced induction car. The supercharger is the ram air, you can't get any more air into the engine no matter what you do. Ram air hood = nice addition to cold air intake

This statement is not true. All engines, regardless of being forced air induction or naturally aspirated, depend on atmospheric air pressure to supply air to the engine's intake, whether that intake is connected straight to the intake manifold or the intake to the supercharger/turbocharger.

Taking advantage of the increase in static pressure caused by higher velocity air slowing down upon entering ram air scoops will improve engine performance directly proportional to the square of the impinging air's velocity. This assumes the ram air intake ducting's resistance to air flow at the volumetric flow rates the engine is drawing is negligible. This is a very important assumption that must be met in order to gain any benefits from the 'ram air effect'.

Just thought id throw that out there, for anyone interested.

On the slp intake... i own a 98 gp and installed a slp cai and i was able to get the box into the same place without moving the coolant bottle it was a tight squeeze but hasent affected any performance.
