Angry Less Gas Mileage

My Jetta'99 has started giving me less mileage. It could run for approx. 325 miles before refill but now gives me only 265 miles. It has 100K miles on it. Has anybody experience less mileage when the car gets old.

Re: Less Gas Mileage

Try just using a fuel system cleaner from an auto store and they also sell a solution to help you get better gas mileage. Something cheap and easy.

have you been keeping up with maintance?
also is it only in the winter? they put that additive in the gas and your gas mileage goes to hell for the winter months.

In the winter months it takes longer for the car to go into closed loop operation where it gets the gas mileage. Also when you let your car warm up before driving it, your eating up lots of gas because the car is in open loop and the engine is pouring gas in to heat it up.

ALso try changing your fuel filter.

Re: Less Gas Mileage

As was said, winter has ill effects on gas mileage. Also the basic tuneup stuff, air and fuel filters, spark plugs and wires, etc.
Check tire pressure and make sure none of your brake pads are rubbing...these could cause a loss in acceleration and gas mileage.

Jetta's Injectors Start Peeing Instead Of Pulverizing At 60,000 Miles. Vw Has A Outdated Injector Manufacturing.

Re: Less Gas Mileage

As stated above, a tune up may help. When changing out the air filter, make sure to clean off the air screen below it in the air box too. At 90k, my air screen was covered with lots of dirt and my mileage wasn't what it used to be. After cleaning the screen and replacing the air filter, my mileage improved as well as pickup.
