2003 silverado overheating problems

Hello all,

My 2003 silverado (4.8) starting overheating a couple of days ago, well running at about 210 degrees. I changed the thermostat, but that did not fix the problem. I have also started noticing a slight squeal in my belts, this squeaking has been going on for a couple of weeks. Could the squeaking belt be the source of the overheating, or is something else causing this?

My 04 5.3L normally runs a hair under 210, as did the 89 chevy I had previously. What temperature does yours normally run?

Maybe the 4.8 does not run as hot, but if the temperature never gets higher 210, I would not be too concerned.

My 04 does still have a belt driven fan, I would assume yours does too. So, a problem with the belt could be the cause of overheating. You should be able to see if the fan is still spinning freely while the truck is running just by looking. Be careful with your fingers though.

Just to make sure, you have checked the radiator fluid level and to make sure there is nothing blocking the radiator?

Thanks for the info, the normal temp for my truck is around 185, so when it rose to 210 I was automatically suprised.

What is the temp. set point for the new thermostat you bought?

You might have a clogged rad but it sounds like your water pump is going bad.

Is there ever water under the truck when it sits for a while?
If not then it is not that.

I try to keep the temp down on all of my trucks. They last a lot longer.

210 seems extreme high.

How many miles? Maybe you might want to upgrade to a bigger rad.

no water under truck so that rules out water pump (i hope) The belt needs to be changed due to the squealing. 41,000 so I shouldnt need a radiator. However how do i check for a radiator leak that cant see

41,000 and new belt. That is weird.

You might have a plugged rad.

Do a rad flush and see if that works. I bet you have a plugged rad.
