95 Honda V6 Running Rough

Hello to ALL!
I am new to the forums and have found some interesting and helpful info on my 92 XJ. Of which I was able to fix with out posting. However, my wife's car has thrown me for a loop. While driving, the car will hesitate and the tach will fluctuate or drop all the way to "0" then shoot back up to normal range for the speed. Now, when it does this the tranny acts like it is in nuetral. I have flushed the tranny and changed the fluid 2 times this past month to help clean out some of the varnish and wear. I have also taken off the throttle body and cleaned it out real good. this seems the help the best. However, it will run fine for a week max then it is back to the same. Mainly, cleaning the throttle body seems to help the best. When I take the throttle body off I also have to disconnect the MAP sensor. So, I am unsure if I am "resetting" the MAP sensor by unplugging it? The throttle body is cleaner now than I think it was when we bought the car new. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like it might be the speed sensor. If the cruise is engaged, does that drop out too when the problem occurs?

I will check it out. The cruise question is a good one. Houston traffic does not allow cruise to be used. lol. But I will use it today and see. Is there anyway to test the speed sensor?

have a mechanic run a diagnostic scanner on your car. this will check the sensors and tell you which ones are bad, or not functioning properly. i have seen post that say some places do this free but i dont know where. also does the check engine light come on at anytime?

Re: 95 Honda V6 Running Rough

Sounds like your coil is going bad. I posted about this awhile back, http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...highlight=jgr7
Any ways what happens is there is a resistor inside the coil that when it gets hot affects pulses going to the tach which causes it to bounce. Also it will feel like the engine is missing , but the transmission is really going in and out of converter lock up. It feels like a miss in the engine. Change the coil and it will be good to go.

Re: 95 Honda V6 Running Rough

Jeff,

Thanks for the info, I will check it out for sure. Small update on it, I found a split on the vacuum hose going to the MAP sensor and a crushed o-ring under the sensor as well, changed those and it calmed down considerably. But it still flutters but not as hard or often. I will check the coil this evening and replace it and see if we can get it knocked all the way out.

Thanks
Jeff also
