gas tank buzzing

1994 S15 Jimmy V6 Vortec (Vin W) auto everything

Just replaced down to the lower intake manifold gasket and replaced the heater core. When I reinstalled everything, my gas tank "buzzes" constantly. I know it is the fuel pump. But why would it buzz non-stop?

Did I miss a connection somewhere that will cause this?

The buzz is normal, if it stops then your fuel won't pump.. GM fuel pumps are known to buzz loudly...

Dang. What a pain.

Is there an aftermarket replacement that is quieter? I don't like the buzz. Although you can only hear it when you are near the gas cap, I still don't like it.

I've found the aftermarket ones are usually even louder!

Ditto. Just replaced mine with a NAPA "top of the line" brand, and it makes more noise than the old one EVER did.

Honestly bro, you going to change a pump because it is too loud?

Little ridiculous don't you think?

I just didn't know what it was supposed to sound like. My cars fuel pumps don't make any sound like that.

Cut me some slack! This is my first truck and I have only had this Jimmy for like 2 months and I already have replaced the cpi, nut kit, both valve cover gaskets, lower & upper intake manifold gaskets, water pump, thermostat, the heater core, all vacuum and coolant hoses.

I had to flush the radiator several times before I got rid of most of the gunk in the coolant system.

I'm still working on getting rid of all the rust stains on the cab floor carpet.

I also installed a Sony CD player which ROCKS! Only 22W but it puts out more sound than I like to listen to.

Nothing like jumping into a new vehicle with both feet eh?

You got that right! This baby shines up pretty nice.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to keep my wife from driving it.

I don't think the line "I'm not sure if it is trustworthy yet" line will work much longer.

Leave a fish wrapped in a ton of newspaper in the jack compartment. Sooner or later, you will get this indellible scent that will last for far longer than your marriage. I love chemical warfare...
...Did I mention that this may be one of the reasons why I am still single, yet?

Re: gas tank buzzing

You can replace the padding on the fuel tank straps and any other place the tank touches anything with new felt (roofing felt will work if you can't find the replacement padding at a parts store) This will help a little, especially if the padding is missing entirely. You can also spray undercoating on the floor pans which will reduce the noise even more. Just depends on whether it is annoying enough to drop the tank again???

Re: gas tank buzzing

I've had the same annoying buzz... knew it was the fuel pump, and definitely didn't look forward to replacing it... glad to know something evil wasn't happening in my gas tank. Thanks!
