1997 GC Will not Cold Start
Hello,
I am a newbie to the site so please bear with me. I have a 1997 Grand Cherokee 5.8L that does not start easily when cold. If I let the Jeep sit for more than a couple of hours it takes 3 tries of turning the key before it will turn over. The starter sounds like it its trying to start the car, but it just will not catch. It started off by me having me turn the key twice and now 3 times (if it starts). I have also noticed that it will sometimes start when I release the key-then it starts rough. I just replaced the coil, plugs, distributor cap, and wires. When I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump activate. It idles rough when it first starts up as well. I have had it die when I put it in gear and then not start up again. I never get any faults and have taken it to a garage. They scanned it, had no faults and could not find anything wrong. I live in San Diego so it never gets below 50 degrees and I brought my car with me from Michigan. Could my fuel filter be clogged? I only know of the fuel filter in the gas tank and do not wish to change it out if not required.
Thanks in advance.
Mike
