Chains on a 4X4

I have a 2003 4X4 Yukon XL. The tire store said that GM does not recommend chains at all for our vehicles. I've never heard of such a thing. I need to drive over a pass to get to our cabin. Most of the time chains are not required but in the event they are, I'd like to get home.

Anyone use chains on their 4X4? Do they need to be on all four tires?

I have a 2004 Yukon Denali XL (All Wheel drive) with OEM tires, Road conditions were chains or snow tires 4x4 required. Road (CA-Hiway 395)
was plowed but snow somewhat packed, road completely covered. Found I could drive 50 MPH comfortably in these conditions. (100 miles)

This might be of some interest to you. I find them expensive though $100 less than manufacturers site. Down side is price & not rated for ice.

On all wheel drive, traction control devices are to be placed on rear wheels.

Re: Chains on a 4X4

Hi,
You can not use regular chains, but there is hope:

My following post copied from this thread

Hi,
please look here for SAE Class "S" Specifications for low clearance tire chains / snow cables.
It is my understanding that the Yukons use that, but ask GM to be sure.

The following is for my 3/4 ton LT tires, I think that yours are P tires. Denali wheels are more upscale, probably 17" instead of 16".
The TRUCK DIAGONAL CABLE TIRE CHAIN is in this link:

Take care, Eggert
