i have just bought a 1991 dodge stealth base model, everybody tells me it has the sohc, but i know what a dohc looks like and it is deffinatly a dohc motor. there is a loud knock comming from the bottom end, i was told it could be the rod bearings, is this a common problem because my friend has a vr4 and he has the same noise. please help i need it.

Re: rod bearings, loud knock?
yea, most likely its a spun bearing. they are kind of common. i had that happen to mine, and i just put another engine in it. drain out ur oil and pull the oil pan off. wiggle on all the rods to check if one of them are loose.. if one of them are then u have a spun bearing
chances are its one of the 2 ends
