How does it steer? Does it feel sloppy? Are your brake rotors smooth or do they have bad grooves? Take the wheel off and check for any wiggle in the bearings . If there is play , Your rotor will wobble some when braking and grind . The brake caliper will try to slide in and out on the bolts to follow the rotor . Hope this helps .Robert

It almost sounds like just the rotors are warped. I had the same problem on my 96 Jimmy. I'm not sure on your year but if you take a front wheel off, the rotor should just slide right off (usually with a few taps with a hammer to knock it loose) $20 each at the autoparts store and you should be good to go. Probably an easy 10 minute job, however it's usually a good idea to replace the pads at the same time.

Brakes
I would look at the calipers, pads, rotor, brake lines, everything while your at it. If its an 89 they probably arn't in the best of shape and if your gonna replace a couple parts you might as well replace everything. A new rotor, caliper and pads at napa or somewhere wouldn't be very much with your core, and you would have front breaks to last you probably till you get rid of it if you do it right.

Re: 89 front end problem
Just because you have new rotors doesn't mean that they can't be warped or were not cut properly. I have seen that several times.

Agreed... Another issue is even though they were new, if the rear brakes aren't adjusted properly, the front rotors could be taking too much load, heating up, then warping..... Other things to look at Tie Rods Ball Joints Idler Arm Pittman Arm..

Re: 89 front end problem
Well, the back shoes aren't going to help your front end virbration if the rotors have already heat warped. As far as the idler goes it's pretty easy, just need a pickle fork, hammer, 18mm box wrench and an 18 mm deepwell socket on a 3" extension...(Might initially need a breaker bar)
