Hey it's me again guys, I reciently replaced the valve cover gasket on my car because the old one I believe was leaking oil, and I was wondering, is there a certain amount of pressure that needs to be on each bolt that holds it down? I just snugged them up pretty tight but I'm not sure exactly how much I'm supposed to tighten them. Any certain amount of pounds of torque?

Re: Valve cover gasket '89 cavvy
Just fairly snug. The alumunium head won't tolerate too much.

Re: Valve cover gasket '89 cavvy
i believe it was 18lbs.. but snug is good enough. As long as you cleaned it off really well you won't have to worry about any more leakage

Fairly snug it is
Alright, I made sure they're all pretty snug in there. My large engines teacher in school was telling me that I had to have a torque wrench and blah blah blah and I was like I don't want to buy one of those for this old thing... so thank you both for replying ^^

Re: Valve cover gasket '89 cavvy
I only EVER use a torque wrench on head bolts, rod bolts, and main bearing bolts.

Just have to be careful with them.
