2004 Mustang

I can confirm it I know someone very close to me that works at the flatrock plant and the 2004 mustang will have four differnt models. The retro speculations are true they will resemble the 1969 Mustang. It seems that since the T-bird retro look Ford has decided to go with it. I also can tell you wait till you see the motor they are putting in them. I have a buddy that work at Roush Racing and does the prototyping for Ford. The 5.4 will be in the car with a super charger on the cobra. He dynoed one at 450 HP all block and over 500 with the super charger. The next couple of years are going to be interesting.

Red face 10 cylinder cobra

even wilder than the supercharged 5.4 is a rumor going around about ford putting in the 6.8ltr v10 and supercharging that w/ torque expected to be in the 600+ range, ford apparently wants to wrestle the torque throne from chrysler's viper, anyone heard the same rumor????

Never heard anything about a big block.
Anything that big would require vast front end modifications as well as suspension mods to handle the big motor and extra weight.
Not to mention the cost of the thing.

Not many people are going to want to spend that much money for a pony car. Sad but true.

Question

Let me get this straight: a) a 5.4L that is at 450 hp net? A supercharged version at 500 hp net? b) So Ford wants it's Mustang customers to pay a gas guzzler tax? To get that kind of power you will have to pump a lot of extra fuel and air into those cylinders and I seriously dought that combo will get 23 mpg/hway. I like the idea but I doubt Ford would do this. Also don't forget the 5.4L will not fit under the hood of a Mustang without a major hood bulge, especially with a blower. The next gen Mustang will have less hood clearance than the current.

I would.

Im not flamming Corvettes when i say this. Very nice cars and very fast. But if im going to buy a $45,000 dollar car, i want it to be different than anything else. One thing i dont like about the Z06 is that it looks to much like a regular vette. Only the vent for the air cooled brakes and other minor details separate them from the rest. Good for a sleeper look. But not much in looks.

Anyone know when the 03 Stangs GTs suppose to be out? I think they are gonna be rated at 285 HP if im right.

New competition

If you're looking for unique, get Lingenfelter's new twin-turboed Corvette. One of the new magazines (Car and Driver maybe?) just came out with an article on one and it did 0-60 mph at 1.9 seconds. Not 0-60' on the 1/4 mile, 0-60 mph. That's faster than Hennessey's Viper. That's pretty tight. I need to go find that magazine...

The article about the new twin-turbo Lingenfelter Vette was in this month's issue of Motor Trend. The article was titled "Vette Vs. Jet". This new Vette has a 0-60 of 1.97 and does the 1/4 mile in 9.24. It also has an estimated top speed or 240+. I was sad to see it take Motor Trend's "fastest street car ever tested" title away from the Hennessey. I'd like to see Hennesseys response to this. You can't get much faster than this Vette and still pass smog tests. It will be interesting.

Did you know that the 4.6 and 5.4 DOHC engines are actually larger than the 429/460 big-blocks that ford used to use?

And bigdork, if you're looking for good mileage, you're in the wrong place.

Hennessey is a fraud, he ripped many people off and there is a ton of proof, and an 8+ liter V-10 with 2 extra cylinders should easily beat a 7 liter V8, but so can a certain 3.0L 2JZ-GTE :smoker2:

Hennessey's going to have a hard time building a faster Viper when his ass is getting sued for multi-millions from the many people he screwed over. Included a few people that wired him money totalling in excess of $100k for their Viper Venom 800's and were never recieved.

That LPE 427TT C5 is badass. With racegas, more boost and a set of LS6 heads it would easily go mid-high 8's.
ARE also has a 422ci. Corvette that was set to run high 8's untill they had some traction problems. They are using a different form of power adder tho, in the form of Direct Port nitrous injection. 250 shot I believe.
On a side note, ARE also has a 98 Z28 that will run mid-high 8's this summer, completely street legal trim.
