Best LS1 Camaro

Sorry about such a common question, but I did a few searches on it here but found nothing. I own a 97 Z-28. But now I want to sell it and buy an LS1. So... What would be the best LS1 (year, etc.) to buy. As far as speed, packages, or little things like, I heard you dont have a speed limiter is you have z-rated tires...dunno though. Thanks again, and I hope to be riding with an LS1 even though I love my LT1. Thanks

Not many major differences. 98-01 will go cheaper than the 02's, but not by much.

1998 didn't have coilpacks, they were coil per cylinder, but not on the pack. If I were to buy another one, it would be a 01-02. They come stock with the LS6 intake manifold, the 98-00's didn't.

Thank you Mr. Luos, but is that all everyone can tell me? Just the ls6 Manifold makes the 01-02 the best? No one sees it another way?

Also I'm guess the 98's are not from what you said about the coils...bad thing I guess right?

Re: Best LS1 Camaro

The coil thing isn't bad, as well as having the LS1 intake. Fairly easy swap to the LS6 intake manifold ($400), and you get a slighty more aggressive cam with the 98-00's.

For the most part, all year LS1's are great. Some have issues, but they aren't year specific.

My 1999 has been great. Of course, I am low mileage, 27,500.

Coilpack, are you saying that the 98 does not have the coils on each cylinder. Mine is a 98 and has the packs on it.

They are still coil per cylinder. Just doesn't have the bracket that holds all 4 together. With 5 bolts, I can remove all my coils on one side.

Not exactly sure if this is Trans Am or Camaro specific, I doubt it though. Maybe later 1998's got the brackets. Not really sure.
