Question broke timing belt

Hey guys/gals, my friend broke his timing belt on a 2001 ZX2. It is at the shop now and they will look at it in a couple of days. What I wanted to know is this an interference motor. I just don't want them to sell him a new motor if he don't need one (he is still paying for the car). Thanks for any replys.

non-interference. replace belt and it should be fine.

Re: broke timing belt

Thanks to everyone. He will be relieved because money is a little tight. Perhaps he will learn about preventive maintainence.

I believe about 100k. Just a little over due. BTW I just heard, no oil in the pan, I guess the belt broke when the cam seized. $1500 for a replacement motor plus install. Must be putting in a junkyard unit. Some folks you just can't help. Thanks again for everybodys input.

Oh hell. Sounds like my brother's work. Maybe a nice bicycle.
