97 Geo Metro 1.3L Engine Problem

I was wondering what engine's would bolt right up in my geo because the engine I have in it right now sounds like it has a rod knocking.

Re: 97 Geo Metro 1.3L Engine Problem

Knocking noise could be the crank bolt is loose. Unfortunately, it usually trashes the end of the crank and ruins the sprocket and key. If it is cought soon enough, you could try pulling the center bolt and put some red loctite on it, the bad thing about that is you will need to use heat to melt the loctite to remove the bolt if you need to replace the oil pump (rare) or the crank seal (common). I fixed a 1.6 Tracker motor with this method using a new key and used sproket and I replaced the seal while I was in there. It worked for the 5 months the people had it until they traded it in. I was lucky though because the crank had very little damage.

The Knocking noise is coming from the far driverside of the motor and you can here it when you put a screw drive up against the oil pan on that side.
