Blackbird01...

Have you ever raced anybody that surprised you?

They didn't have to have won, but at least kept up, or something. Just something that you totally didn't expect for what kinda car it is/was.

For that matter, anybody else experience this?

Carnutt: No. I really don't get many races on the street, and when I do, I don't expect to KILL them (mainly because of my tires).
I did have one race against my friends Firehawk and at the end I got surprised....by a COP!
We had just made a turn and took off. We were side by side the entire time...After we let off and started coasting back down to the speed limit, I check my mirror and there's a damn cop behind us. It was a dark blue Grand Prix GTP with NO signs of being a cop. Both my friend and I pulled over and 2 older guys got out, not in uniform. They had a badge however....
Anyways, they just let us go (I think they were undercover drug unit) and didn't feel like going thru the hassle of everything.

I was surprised once not too soon after I got the SS. I white Z28 pulled up next to me at a stop light, it sounded good, and we just glanced at each other, so I knew it was on. What I didn't realize or see was the amount of work that was done on the exhaust end, and who knows what was under the hood. At about 80, he was about a car length ahead of me, and I could finally see what he had under there, and I was impressed. I was nieve in thinking I could just race a Z and win. It didn't help that I had my AC on and my g/f was in the car I guess, oh well, it was fun. I gave him a thumbs up when it was over, not sure whether he saw that or not. If he did, I hope he didn't think I flicked him off, it was a good race.

I was riding with my friend in his 91 CRX DX-I/E, caron fiber hood, well we were at a stoplight and a DODGE ARIES from like 88 or something pulls up with 4 or 5 punks in it flipping us off and shit...so he revs on em and they rev back(it had to be auto, i don't think they made that car in stick). So we go and guess what, we LOSE....i just busted out laughing...he didn't say anything the whole way home...i think he was in shock:hehe:

I was surprised once when I had my previous car. I was racing a 00' C5 on the street, and I still don't know what he had under the hood. Whatever it was, it was enough to keep him only about a length or so back. I was surprised, and after the race he just turned off so I didn't have a chance to talk to him. Oh well...He still lost

I just learned something new then. Someone told me before that they thought it shut off at 4000 rpms when you got on it. Way to be GM.

Was this the ten-second car you had at this time?

Blackbird01:

Me and my old roommate were zipping around the freeway with his CRX Si, with a lot of traffic around us (this was in '96). My roomie was in a hurry, so he started weaving in and out of traffic. We weren't speeding too bad...about 70...except everyone else was going about 50. This brown CAVALIER that looked completely normal, except for the flashing lights pulled us over....

I have never seen anything like it since then.

Yes indeed! Low 11s NA, low 10s on the juice!! I obviously wasn't using n2o for this street run, but still, I was surprised he was able to keep up with a mid-11 second run. I'd like to know what he was running under there!

Actually, Mr. Smartypants, GM holds patents on a lot of automotive related ideas that are used by a LOT of other car companies...
Trust me, they aren't as dumb as they look.
