Service manual?

Where's a good place to get a service manual for my car? It's a 2000 GMC Jimmy 4dr 4x4 4.3L. What's better, one of the third party (like Haynes) manuals or an original GMC service manual? Where can I get either of those? I've looked at autozone et al but I haven't been able to find one for my car.

I think he is asking about the actual GM service manual for his year vehicle. They usually run about $100 each and there is usually a separate electrical supplement.

I picked one up for one of my other cars (1990 Geo Metro), but I found that the Haynes usually is the best source for most of my questions. Chilton has not been as useful to me as Haynes imo.

The shop service manual is what the GM mechanics use.

Re: Service manual?

www.helminc.com is one place you can get new Factory Service Manuals. There should also be an order form in the back of your owner's manual.

Ebay also carries them from time to time.

Good word Yukon. Their prices are very reasonable.

I did see on eBay people selling a copy on CD.

I don't know the quality, but it is pretty simple to scan in pages and put them in PDF format for CD.

I have one HUGE book se (non-automotive) on 2 CDs and I love it.

If anyone has any experience with CD shop manuals I would like to hear it. Thx.

Re: Service manual?

I bought a Factory Service Manual CD for my '01 Dodge 4x4 w/ Cummins diesel. It is all there (except for the Bosch VP44 injector pump breakdown but the printed factory manuals don't have that info either) and if I need to compare something on the truck, I just print what I need and take it out to the truck.
I bought printed factory service manuals for my Bravadas and they are quite expensive.
