Re: 3 Cats!!!

rumor says that ford didnt want the t birds to be as good of a performance car as the mustang, so they did little things to restrict air flow, and cut performance. Another possibility is that the T Bird is supposed to be just a lot more luxurious than the mustang, so they wanted it quiet, at the cost of permormance. I read this in a link that was posted by 8ate8 in the recent air silencer thread.

Re: 3 Cats!!!

Well my link didn't mention anything about the cats, but the point of the three cats was to further reduce emmisions. You can phsyically pass with just two cats, but Ford wanted to make sure they would run even cleaner, so they added the 3rd, which also doubles, in our case, as a Y-pipe for th exhaust.

Re: 3 Cats!!!

I only meant that it said ford made the car quieter at the expense of performance.. or however, but yea it didnt say anything about the cats, it only was referring to the air silencer.

Re: 3 Cats!!!

Ive looked them up befor and the last one (the one not on the Y pipe) is like $300 (because its form fit for the T-Bird). That really sucks.
