2000 LS Wiper Problems

My 2000 LS just started to have wiper problems the other day. The wipers work, but when shut off they stay in the full upright position on the glass and do not return to the lower section of the windshield. My local dealer suggested over the phone that issue was most likely the wiper motor going bad. He said this is a common issue on the 98-00 models. Has anyone had this happen? Is the fix as simple as taking out the old wiper motor and replacing it? Thanks

So the problem started suddenly? Were the wipers left in the up position and get frozen? That will cause motor breakage.

Sounds like the dealer is fairly certain about this one; I would consider letting them do the work, but giving you a guarantee that if that WASN'T the problem, they won't charge you for it.

I have a '96. I tried removing it today and could not figure out how to get it out. The three bolts are loosend up and the linkage is disconnected. How do you get all of that molding off? I doesn;t seem that easy to me. Help! I don't have the money to pay anyone right now, Dental bills are killing me.

Re: 2000 LS Wiper Problems

I could not get the molding off completely. I removed the screws and the ignition switch then I was able to separate the two pieces enough to get the switch out. The ignition switch slide right out once a put the key in and turned it to the first place and push the button on the bottom (looks like a large silver bb) of the ignition switch. Good Luck.

I have a 97 and replaced my window motor this summer. It is usually 1 of 2 problems. Either the switch from the control in the steering column or the motor. I talked with friends of the family that worked at Ford for several years and they said that 90% of the time when cars came in for service with that problem it was the motor. When replacing the motor make sure that the motor is in the cradle or home position (off-position).

Take the wiper arms off, remove the moldings and clips. Some plastic screw/clips may break it's common - you can pick some up at a parts store. pull the weather stripping off, metal clips on the driverside up against the firewall, and the motor is attached to the underside of a plastic panel in the middle of the car back by the winshield and firewall. It shouldn't be too difficult though I need a little bit of help to do mine. I think my motor was around $30 after core charge was refunded.

Best of luck

Cheers!
