2004 dodge ram

I am about to purchase an 04 1500 and I was wondering who has had problems with an 02 or newer? What they were and cost? I am getting the 4.7L with a manual trans. I have been told that they don't make a 1500 with the 5.7 and a manual trans. Any one know if it is true? Also is there a pretty good assortment of aftermarket engine parts for the 4.7? thanks for reading this long post.

Re: 2004 dodge ram

You're right about the transmission choices, the HEMI only come with automatic in the 1500.

I think there's exhaust and intake parts available for the 4.7 since it's been out for awhile; but I haven't researched it.

BleedDodge, you 100% certain about the 5.7 and manual trans in the 2500? All I've come across they didn't mate up the 5.7 w/manual only auto. The 2500 comes with manual trans on 5.9 diesel.

Go to www.dodge.com and 'build' one for yourself; you'll see that manual + HEMI is available in both 2500 and some 3500 models.

Re: 2004 dodge ram

FredJackson - I'll give you the gold star for the day. Wow, I wish I had done a little more digging. I love my 5spd-slushbox and hemi. But, I wouldn't mind rolling in a 2500 w/6spd and a hemi. Doh! They don't offer the HD 6spd w/hemi. I suppose that's ok afterall it's built for the diesel which has double the torque. Thanks for setting me straight!

Re: 2004 dodge ram

What was the year? 2002? When both the hemi and the 360 were available at the same time.

The 360 got the stick and the hemi kept the automatic. Dodge needed to keep a gas V8 engine in the 2500 line with the option to have the stick, and I guess that since the hemi was new, and the 360 always had the stick, the 360 just kept it.

The year after when the 360 was done with, the hemi got the option of having the stick in the 2500 series. It's too bad they let the 360 go, nevermind that, it's too bad they let the 318 go. Time makes way to new technology, I guess...

Re: 2004 dodge ram

Yeah, my 98 1500 has the 360. I love that truck. But, my 2004 - 1500 sporting the hemi is a dream. I wish DaimlerChrylser would have kept the displacement at 360 instead of opting for the typical GM SBC 350ci displacement. What I truly wanted to keep was a solid front axle that my 98 has. The 2500 has it. I could've had a hemi. A manual tranny and my solid front axle. Please shed a crocodile tear for me >sniffle<. Oh well, it's a good excuse to buy the PowerWagon!

Re: 2004 dodge ram

Keep in mind that the HEMI was probably made at 350c.i.d. so it could run in NASCAR. In the late 60's or early 70's both GM and Ford had 350's, and NASCAR said that no engine could exceed 350cid, so Mopar cut down the 360 and made the 340. So it's logical they'd make the 5.7 HEMI to fit the rule of law that NASCAR has.....but don't forget the 6.1L HEMI should be coming out in the Chrysler 300; it may find its way into the trucks eventually.

I'd like the see the Power Wagon with the diesel.

For your info you can go to the dodge web site and biuld for free. What I mean is you can go there and biuld your truck I think they do have a 5 speed standard with the 5.7. It should cost for the 5.7 crew short box depending on the add on's about 30,000. I have the automatic 5 speed with the 6 disc in dash Infenity sound system with the steering wheel controls. Cloth interior for 33,000 nerf bars chrome package w/tow package, and 17" wheels. Its a great truck FYI The sound system is very good...... I wish i would have opted for the tow mirrors and 20" Wheels But then its woth the money

Re: 2004 dodge ram

Wife has a 2003 Durango 4.7 automatic and has done very well so far. No problems at all. 4.7 has plenty of towing power. Have heard rumors of sludge problem with oil so I'm doing the 3,000 mile oil change interval.

You should change your oil every three thousand miles regardless of what you own.

Ruben, I'll do you one better...

I managed to snag a new 04 SLT Laramie QC 4x4 J-package w/17's, leather, 6-disc in-dash dealio, 8' box, and they threw in Line-x bedliner and wind deflectors for the doors for 26,000 portraits of our first President.

What can I do for an encore? Well, I may be able to keep my 98 Ram too. Kinda got old ladies buy-in to sell of the Camaro instead
