Check Oil Light

I have a 1996 cavalier Z24. The check oil light comes on when I start the car. If I turn the car off and start it again the check oil light goes off. My oil level is not low. Since this problem has started I changed my oil. Any ideas of what the problem is?

Re: Check Oil Light

Many GM cars have a sensor in the oil pan that detects low oil level. Your may be bad.

Do you park on a slope? that can throw it off!

I replace the oil sensor in the pan but I still have the same symptoms. Any other ideas of what is causing the problem?

Re: Check Oil Light

Bad ground on the oil pressure sensor. Check your plug.

Re: Re: Check Oil Light

I have a 92 Caprice with 56k miles. The low oil light was coming on sporatically, but never low oil. As part of routine maintenance, I changed the O2 sensor. The low oil light didn't come on for several months. I thought that was the fix. However, a couple of days ago, it came on and has stayed on while the car is running. I'm going to change the oil sensor in hopes the problem goes away.
