Gas Pump Pops

My girlfriend has an 02 Cabrio and whenever and whereever she gets gas, the pump pops out (whether the tank is empty or not).

Re: Gas Pump Pops

The pump physically falls out of the filler neck or the automatic nozzle trigger holder pops to the off position?

Re: Gas Pump Pops

I think the latter. The pump just stops pumping. We live in NJ so we can't pump on own gas, but when I pumped it in PA, I had to keep hitting the trigger again and whatnot.

Re: Gas Pump Pops

There may be a problem in the tank's venting system causing the fuel to back up in the filler neck. You will probably have to get someone to go into the fenderwell & check out the vent hoses & eveporative emmisions system.

I live in PA and pump my own gas and the same thing happens. I find that when my gas is pumped in NJ, the attendants don't know what to do because it keeps popping off. I try holding the pump up higher (at an angle) or flip the pump upside down and fill it. I'm not sure why these 2 methods work, but they do. If you just put the pump all the way in, with no angle to it, it will keep popping off. Good luck... this works for me.
