LT1 vs LS1

What are the differences between an LT1 and an LS1? Any comments will be appreciated! Thx!

LT1 motors have a reverse cooling flow, they are a 4 bolt main iron block, use the opti-spark(crap), and there are a few other things but I can't think of them. Ls1 motors are aluminum blocks that actually have 6 bolt mains, the cooling flow is "normal" and it uses coil packs, and comes with very good flowing heads.

Rob's description is pretty good. There are no interchangeable parts in these engines, except the rod bearings and the lifters.
It would depend entirely, on your application, which one is more suited. In general, LSx is a modern engine, and LTx is a makeover of the same old small block (not necessarily a bad thing, as same ol' small blocks are pretty damn good!).

If you are trying to determine what to buy, go with the LS-1. It is a dynamo of an engine. It is the latest technology in small-block development. I used to sell cars at the largest Chevy dealership in Ohio, and we would frequently get alot of performance Camaro's. I still remeber the first time I took out a 98 Z28 to lunch. I know that the car was brand new, but it felt faster than the 96 SS w/2000 miles that we had sitting on the lot. If you are going to go for one, go for a later F-body, like 01, or 02. I had a co-worker who bought an 02 Trans Am and that was the fastest LS-1 car I had ever ridden in, and it was all stock. Just thought you might want to have an opinion on the two. By the way those quarter mile times you read about with late LS-1 F-body's running low 13's, believe it! My 70 Dart has run a best time of 13.71, and his car felt like it could blow me off the road. Also considering the LS-1 F body cars are a couple hundred pounds lighter than the older F bodies makes a big difference. Put on some spray and watch out!
