Learning about my car

I have a 2000 Cavalier Z24, it's an automatic and I'm not sure what mods I can do with it. Anyone wanna help out a newbie?
Also, I've been having a problem with it idling at about 500 - 600 RPMs and I'm not sure if that's just a commen Cavalier thing or if there's something wrong. My dad hooked up a program on a laptop (?) to my car that keeps saying that I'm having cylinder 4 misfires and it sounds like it's sputtering for life. I've changed all 4 spark plugs, checked the gaps, changed the oil, the oil filter, the air filter, checked the ignition coils and the injectors, and I've also run some injector cleaner through, yet still I get no improvement. Help please???

Re: Learning about my car

welcome to my life with the misfire but i got it on the first cylinder. try replacing the coilpacks. if that doesn't work get your head checked out. GM had this lovely idea to screw up theirs heads on the 4 cylinders for a number of years and cheaply fix them to ge thtem off the floor. might be a rod problem. how many miles you got on that baby

Re: Learning about my car

Ok try replacing you coil pack. they are like 30-40 for a set. and one pack equals two cylinders on cavaliers. so replace the one that works with your fourth cylinder. then replace your wires or at least the fourth one and the spark plug. next get rid of anything bosch. SHIT SHIT SHIT and i don't care who agrees with me on that becasue they are shit. next get yourself an aftermarket intake. underdrive pulley (ebay for 2.4 = like $50) and some different exhaust. start there and see where you go. next do motor mounts. they are like $65 for a 2.2 and should be the same for a 2.4.

That's a rather low Idle!!

Anyway if you havenb't replaced your plug wires, do so and do all of them but one at a time!! Mods depend on your budget, what type of performance you want and how you use your car! best first step is an Intake although you then have to decide cold air or Short Ram. Both can yeild similar results although short ram need some other things as otherwise it'll just suck hot engine bay air. you can go boost if that's your bag or cams, headers and the like if you want NA for circuit!
You call on all!
