check guage light

the check guage light came on when i was driving and i lost all the guages, they just quite working. it did this for a few seconds and then went back to normal. a minute later it did it again. could it be a loose wire or harness or possibly a fuse? thanks, 91 plymouth voyager

I am here investigating the same thing.

Here is what I have found so far:

1) Remove the lower dashboard panel
2) Where the driver's right knee would be, there is a BCC(Body Controle Computer)
3) Unplug the unit for a few minutes, then plug it back in.

STAY AWAY FROM THE YELLOW WIRE HARNESS IF YOU DON'T WANT THE AIRBAG IN YOUR FACE!

4) This SHOULD fix the problem.

But fair warning, it did not fix it yet in my case. I will update here when I have found out.

Re: check guage light

One good idea is to disconnect your battery for 10 minutes and then reconnect. If a communication Module is hung up, this will reset them. It fixed a dash light problem for me and costs nothing to try. Let us know how you make out. I'm convinced I should do this every time I have a accessory(spelling?) problem. Better than paying a dealer mega bucks to replace something that's not really broke.

I have removed the positive terminal from the battery and will let it sit overnight. Expect an update tomorrow once I get home.

Its 1 degree outside and I don't feel like losing a limb.

Re: check guage light

Check gages light? That's a new one to me. Do you really mean the Malfunction Indicator light (MIL) or perhaps the Check Engine Light (CEL) -same thing. If so, goto this link to get info on extracting diagnostic codesand their meaning:

Top left hand side of Instrument Cluster says 'Check Gages'

I cleaned the wire terminals and it worked this morning. But it froze on me on the way home tonight. It now sits in the driveway doing 55mph!

But it COULD be the -15 degree weather all day!

Re: check guage light

ALWAYS disconnect the NEGATIVE cable to the battery BEFORE you even THINK about doing ANYTHING under the dashboard! With your head in such close proximity to the airbag, it can KILL you by breaking your neck or pushing a screw driver/ratchet/etc through your SKULL. Assuming you survive this accident, you will then find it HIDEOUSLY expensive to replace the deployed ABS unit. BE SAFE!

Re: check guage light

After letting it sit overnight, the speedometer and everything else worked fine all day today. Now lets hope it stats that way.

And thanks for that tip Horseman!
