Take a good look at your tires, if they are OK, and you know 100% they are, try getting your tires balanced. Costs like $10-$15 at wal-mart. If that doesn't stop it....try getting an alignment. And the very final thing, and the worst I've ever experienced is check your brakes. I know this is a 3000gt/stealth forum but my Pontiac grand-am had the same problem, and I went through all those steps.....after each one the wobble got less and less, but ultimately my front right brake pad was "welded" to the disc.....had to replace disc, and brakes, plus the cost of a new tire, balancing, and alignment in the troubleshooting process.....for your sake, let's hope it's one of the first I mentioned cause they are cheaper to fix. Never leave your vehicle with relatives while you go away for 6 months, you come back and the brakes are welded to your discs...

before you go and pay all that money to have the tires balanced, aligned and all that crap, it might be practical to see if you can locate the problem instead of just guessing.

Tell us a little more about this 'thumping'. Are you sure its only from the front left? Is there a vibration along with the thumping? do you feel/hear it when you break lightly? try breaking hard...do you still hear it?

i agree, does it only do it high speeds, does it do it when you are braking from 10mph to a stop or just at like 40mph to slow down. your rotors may need replaced or turned...it sounds like they are warped.

front end

The thumping seems only to happen when the car is cold, ive only had the car for a few months and i havnt driven it far becasue i only have a junior license. It seems really distinct when I stop at the stop sign at the end of my street after start up but then it seems to mellow out.

if it only does it when cold, i would say the rotors are just a tad warped. once the rotors warm up a little bit, the noise kinda fades away.

ya, warped rotors was my first thought as well. however, its odd that it only occurs on the front left. when my rotors were warped, both left and right were warped. haven't heard of just one being warped and not the other, but i'm sure its happened before.

rotors aside, its odd that this only happens when the car is cold. a warped rotor would be felt even after the car (and brakes) warmed up. you might look into the CV boot. mine vibrates, its annoying, but i just haven't gotten around to fixing it.

and one last comment...is it really a 'THUMPing' noise? can you feel it? any vibration at all? and its ONLY on the front left side?

also, to add to those questions...can you feel it through the steering wheel and/or brake pedal??? usually warped rotors will send a very noticable vibration through the steering wheel...
