Diagnostic Codes

My 2000 Tuarus Check engine light came on recently. My fiances father had a diagnostic machine made by "Snap-on" that covered cars to 2001. i had him hook my car up and it came back with the following.

System check incomplete
p - 1408 - EGR - Flow out of range

I then replaced the EGR valve and reset the check engine light. The next day the light came back on. We rechecked it and got the following.

P - 1000 (OBO - II) system check incomplete
p - 1116 - ECT - Sensor out of range
P - 1408 - EGR - Flow out of range

Can anyone PLEASE tell me what the problem with the car is? It still runs fins but does seem to have a VERY slight studder on occasion, especially at idle, but otherwise still runs fine.

Re: Diagnostic Codes

Read the values on the dpfe sensor and see what it says, it should be around 1.14 volts. If it's not them it's telling the computer that the egr is faulty. The ect problem could be that it's low on water.

Re: Diagnostic Codes

DPFE(delta pressure feed sensor) reads your exhaust. Look at your exhaust and you'll see two rubber hoses coming off your egr exhaust hose going to a sensor that is mounted to your intake. ECT(electronic coolant sensor) Look close to your thermostat and you'll see a sensor with two wires that measure the temp of the coolant and if the coolant is low it'll read out of range.

Re: Diagnostic Codes

They are really easy to replace but beware that the two black rubber hoses that go to the dpfe are not vacuum lines. They are special hoses that resist heat and can only be purchased at the dealer. They might split when you try to remove them, Keep in mind that this is only a guess and the only way to be sure is to use a scan tool and get the values.

Update

THANK YOU ALL, i checked the water level in the overflow and it was low, i filled it, and did in fact replace the DPFE valve. I did have to purchase a new hose for the larger outlet on the new valve due to its different configuration, the larger port was molded farther away and the old tube would not reach. I then reset the codes and have had a week of no check engine light. THanks for the information.
