99 Cruise Control

My 1999 Taurus cruise control won’t engage. When I press the set button, the light in the dashboard flashes but the cruise control does not engaged. Any one knows what could be wrong?

I had the same problem, turns out the wires on the brake light switch were damaged. I had the switch replaced and now the cruise will not work at all. I would love to find out how you fix it. I do not even get the light to flash now. I think that the set/accell switch is broken now. I am going to try to replace that soon.

There's a pressure switch at the end of the brake master cylinder that is bad about leaking through shorting, it is the back-up for your brake switch for deactivating the cruise. Usually the fuse blows but not always. Tauruses also seem to go through the buttons on the steering wheel, which are expensive but now can be purchased without the wheel. I'd check the brake switch first, though, it's only 20 bucks and pretty common. If it is leaking, be sure to replace it, they've been linked to fires in Expeditions.
