99 Z24 Manual Trans Help

Over the weekend drove to Chicago with a friend to pick up her kids, about a block from our destination the car started making a grinding noise. When we got in front of the house the car stopped moving. When I disengage the clutch and it's just the enginee running it sounds fine, but when you reengage any gear to try to move it sounds like a grinder just grinding up metal. The car wan't being driven hard and has 124,000 miles on it. I am just assuming the trans gave and I need to replace it, but i would like some opinions mainly because I am not very repair orientated and need some guidance.

Thanks in advance everyone.

well, all fluids were checked before I left to go up there and there were all full when I had to leave it. I just think it failed, in which case, I have to go find a truck and trailer and tow it back down here.

Was it just hard to put into gear and sounded like you were makin sasuage? How far do you have to push the clutch to the floor before it disenguages or enguages out? There is a few possibilites, lets hope its just the clucth and not the tranny. If it stays in gear and its only malfunctioning while trying to be put into gear,, its more than less your clutch.

No, it goes into and out of gear just fine, it just won't move.....sounds like metal in a blender when you step on the gas with it in gear.

Sounds like your pressure plate on you clutch has collapsed and the clutch plate isn't engagain at all. The pedal probably wouldn't go light as it hydrualic and the sound me be the fingers (springs) from the pressure plate having broken off and spinning inside the pressure plat and your thrust bearing (pilot bearing) has gone all the way though! I would say that was the problem right there!

I did you a picture!

This bits circled have probably broken off!
