Down under the steering wheel on the under-side of the dash, there ought to be a black strip of metal. On that should be the key-code and/or the keyless entry code.

The keyless entry code is for the keypad most likley, but to make sure you can drive into your Ford Dealer and ask them to give you the PIN number if this code doesn't work by running your VIN. Don't let them charge you for it either, some shops can be real jerks about just helping a guy out.

In any event, i hope that helps you man.

I have an '01 (other threads have suggested they eliminated this practice in later models, but it's worth a check!), and I found it on the computer module located behind the plasic wall behind the rear seats, between the two tiny access panels where your tire jack is. It was on a sticker on the lower right section of the computer module, 5 digits. Tough to get to, but I read it without a mirror.

$95 dollars, give me a break. Hope this hels you as much as it did when I found out how.

Keypad Code Location

Thanks to all who responded to my plea for help. I have had quite a few inputs as to the location of the keypad code location. I have concluded that the locations have changed through model years and as for my model 02, it appears that it might be behind the passenger side's airbag....a place I am not going....looks like I'll have to get it the expensive way.......dealer's choice.

1998-2000 Explorer and Explorer Sport keypad codes are on a label attached to the computer module (facing outward) located in the rear left inside fender panel accessible by the jack cover panel. I pulled my '99 module bracket until I could read the number. A flashlight is a must and a mirror might help too!
I know someone who rebuilt a 2001 Sport Trac and he found the code right where 2001Sport_Traccer said it was.
For those interested, Northern Tool Inc. has the OBD code readers starting at $135. At $95 a pop, wouldn't take long to pay for it, whatever the problem! It's also cheaper if you know someone who has one!

Re: Keypad Code Location

AutoZone has them for $85 on up--depends on the ability to reset the computer and dignose things down to the molecular level of the problem. I've had mine read once to HALFway solve a IAC problem, and that was $70 right there; I'm kicking myself for not having gotten one because that was half the cost of one right there, and I'm BOUND to use it again. Live and learn.

Sorry, running a bit off topic.

Good call--once could make the money back in a matter of months by offering its service out for a quarter of the cost at a retail shop. Thanks! You may have just made my Christmas budget!
