Im sure you all know my truck pretty well by now but it's in the sig if you don't remember. I should be getting a new job coming up soon so im just looking for some input on what I should do with my baby. (the truck)
The 305 is well past its prime, if it ever had one, so would one of the 383 stroker crate engines be worth looking into? They were around $4,000 in some magazine I was reading. That's pretty damn steep but just any 350 or better crate would do. I kinda like the Phantom grille headlight recess kit or whatever thats called, and fo'sho a paintjob and suspension and a rim and tire combo and yadda yadda yadda. There is a LOT I want to do, and im going to do to it, I just don't know where to start or what exactly to look into. It obviously needs a complete rebuild or motor soon so thats probably first, but what should I do after that, and what crate engine would you suggest? Pretend you own the truck in my sig, (I can post as many pics as you guys want) what would you do with it? P.S. No selling allowed.

Re: What would you do with my truck? Any opinions would be awesome.
Always start with the mechanical stuff and wait for the body and paint till last you don't wanna tesr up a new paint job when you drop in that big block or knock off the jack stands when you are tubing the bed and shrtening the rear end!!

Re: What would you do with my truck? Any opinions would be awesome.
you can get a crate engine out og jegs with 375-400hp for less than $5k and if i had an old c1500 short bed like that i would turn that thing into a lil white rocket. my opinion is all the outside asthetics and appearence stuff is a waste, nothin matters if your truck doesnt have the shit n git. and if you leave it like it looks now it would be one hell of a sleeper. i say spend about 90% on engine and performace/mechanical parts and the other 10% on a grille or w/e else.

Not sure if it comes with a new chip or not; however they should tell you the correct chip that you will need. You will also need the correct injectors for the 350. //2000CAYukon |

From what I gather the nibute difference between a 359 vs. 383, s 350 would probably make nore sense unless you are going to turn this into a permanat truck built only for track use

Re: What would you do with my truck? Any opinions would be awesome.
I have a 93 shortbed 2x4, and I recently did a complete engine job that was cheap and well worth it. First of all, I would say, in your case, it all depends on how much work YOU want to do. For about $1,000, (machining and parts) plus my own labor, I was able to rebuild my 350 tbi into a monster of a machine. If you are wanting to stay with the throttle body injection setup, (which is practically a must) your best power gains will be in a slightly larger camshaft, (the stock computer is limited to about 215 degrees of duration) a better-flowing intake, and a larger throttle body. Do things right and you will be spanking GT mustangs. Seriously.
Now, as far as lights and all the bling, I was in an accident and had to replace a fender and the whole front end. What I did was swap my old grille for a newer 94-up chrome grille; I also swapped in some halo headlamps, clear corner lenses, clear parking lamps, and a smooth chrome bumper. Do all that and you will be turning the heads of many a chevy lover, or hater! That's about all, but if you need some detailed help, just let me know. I have done craploads of mods to my truck, and it is a blast to have. Good luck. |
