Wheel hop issues?

Hey guys, my new 92 240 SX SE has 146k miles and it has the orig. shocks/struts...

I have owned several of these cars buy never had one that has "Wheel hop" seems to when I go around corners fairly sharply at decent rates of speed...

These also to be the worst condition of my shocks/struts I have felt.
Is that the cause? or something else?

I bought new Toyo's...205 15 60R speed rated tires...Drives great all other times...

Thanks much for any imput...

Re: Wheel hop issues?

Buy some subframe bushings, it will reduce and/or remove wheel hop.

They're metal spacers thas compress the existing ones or you can get all metal inserts. Subframe spacers and Tension Rods will make some of the biggest differences in handling. If those dont get it new shocks will.

OK Thanks R.W. I will get new shocks/struts first, as I know I need them now and see what that does...Has anyone used KYB's?

Re: Wheel hop issues?

KYB AGX are the ones you want. Comes with 4 levels of adjustment for the front, and 8 levels in the back.

Re: Wheel hop issues?

i know that AGX has all of that adjustibility and has recommended a few times i have seen, but they are at least an extra 100 dollars, and if im not looking to be a hardcore tuner, and also running on a tight budget, are they worth the extra money. Will i use the adjustibility more than once every month, or will i adjust it once and let it go, b/c if that would be the case then i could just get the GR-2s and save some money... im not planning on drifting, i just want a smooth ride and better handling, is the AGX still worth the extra money?

sorry its long

Re: Wheel hop issues?

Yep I had the AGX's on another 240 I use to have...very good handling, pretty stiff & harsh for everyday driving that isn't smooth pavement though.

Xcuse also brings up a good point... I have never felt the GR-2's? Anyone?

The price dif is how much?

Re: Wheel hop issues?

i think he said about $100.. but i'd say don't go bottom bottom of the line.. having the agx's won't make you a super tuner.. not even close.. a good suspension setup will cost you ballpark $2500.. you won't be paying more than $500 for the shocks alone

Re: Wheel hop issues?

i have the AGX's myself...the ride isnt that horrible unless you drive on really shitty streets. the AGX's are pretty beeft too...dont really have to worry about them blowing on you...I've heard rumors of the GR-2's blowing...i personally say go for the AGX's myself

Re: Wheel hop issues?

the AGX's i can find for about 330, the gr-2's for like 240...i just dont know how much i would use the adjustibility... and if im only settin it once i dont see why i would spend the extra 100... are the gr-2s any good, does anyone kno... im leanin towards savin the xtra 100 but i dont want to buy it just to say its adjustable

Re: Wheel hop issues?

I dunno how many setting the GR-2s have, but thye seem to have only one, what if you don't like it? If you change it only once, it'll be to the setting you like, the AGX have 4 different settings, so if you don't like the one they come in, you have 3 other choices, with the GR-2s, if you don't like the one they come in, it's tough and you have to live with it.

The GR-2's are made as a stock replacement. They are not a performance shock. It is the same for the blue Tokico's. They are meant to be stock replacements. The AGX's are definatly the way to go if you want to handle better. If you want to maintain a stock ride quality and have a 240sx that handles like it did when it came off the showroom floor then get the GR-2's. Keep in mind, the stock suspension does handle fairly well, so how much do you care about ride quality.

And D-Bo, I have the AGX's on my Civic with RS*R race springs and it's a damn rock. The suspension doesn't move hardly at all. AGX's can be used for more than just street, they are a great shock for racing aswell. I'm not sure how they are on 240's but I know they are rock hard on Civic's. I love them.
