Ga Audio Amp?

I've been having battery problems lately with my 99 GA SE, i got them resolved, during that time i disconnected my rear 6X9 speakers because they had known to me before to cause problems. Everything is now buttoned back up and reconnected and works fine. Problems is my stereo doesn't have as much "push" as it used too, no matter how i change the settings the sound coming out is always really flat, it does change, but it is always sort of flat. I've got a newer pioneer deck is what i'm using. I noticed while thumbing through the fuse/circuit breaker part of my owners manual there is an indepenant fuse for an "audio amp". Is there a small audio amplifier built into the car somewhere? Maybe thats my problem?

I don't know much about systems, but I think I know where that amp is you're looking for. It's in the trunk. If your's it the same setup as my '01, this is what you need to do:

Open trunk
Remove net / hooks for net
Pull back carpet from side of car on driver's side

and vwhalla, there should be your amp, screwed into some brackets attached to the side of the car. At least that's the way it is with my stock monsoon system in my 01 GAGT.

do you know if this amp drives just the rear speakers? or does it drive all of them?

Thats where it is on the se's as well. I see only 8 wires on the amp so I would guess its only for the 2way 6x9's and according to a audio installer "removing the inline amp for the 6x9's and wiring it straight to the speaker with a replacement deck will greatly improve the sound quality" what I got from the discussion was if you simply replace the deck with a more powerful one the speakers are amplified much more than stock and the inline amplifier just mixes up signals and creates crappy sound. Im not a audio pro or nothin like that but I have a good ear for what music should sound like and a double amplified speaker is gonna crack or kill itself with that setup. Over or under amplified speakers sound distorted the deck should be balanced if used itself without that inline amp. Also heard the old amps can be sold on E-Bay some dealerships buy them and wholesalers. Good luck with your sterio application.

You may need to (if your deck has one) adjust your crossover settings untill the desired sound quality and volume is correct for your ears. If you do not have a crossover built in then you can get an external crossover that may help. I just purchased a 7 band equilizer for my system , with a more indepth equilizer you can adjust the sound quality to suit your needs another device you can put inline to the speakers is a n audio line driver , this little device is like a amplifier that increases the signals power instead of double amplifing , it is a logical device easy to install but most people use them for boosting sub input signals I have seen them used for front and rear speakers but they should be able to handle rms power ratings cus the power would be too great for cheap speakers. Ummmmm I think Im done talking out my arse cus like I said before I dont know to much about car audio and as far as I know you probably know more than me.

after rewiring my 6x9's twice now i found my problem, seems that these speakers are polarity sensitive and i had them hook up backwards, silly me. last i knew any smaller speaker like that it didn't matter the polarity, but i haven't messed with my speakers in 4-5 years.

The deck i'm running is a pioneer 50w x 4 mosfet with the stock front speakers and two 220w max 40w nominal pioneer 3way 6x9s in the rear. Now that everything is hooked up right it sounds pretty good, i but do know that when i fade my sound all the way back to the 6x9s the sound quality goes way down. Would it be worth the effort to bypass this inline amp? I know the walmart displays for the same stereo and speaker i have seem a lot more powerful and better sounding.

Yes bypass the factory amp and the speaker will sound like the one at the store.

finally got to looking for that amp, i took out all the carpeting in the trunk and found nothing. Why would they not install an amp but still go through the trouble of wiring in a fuse for it? Maybe i wasn't looking in the right direction?

Its in a fixed position to the right suspended there is the amp clipped onto the brace in the trunk. Its small not like conventional amps very light. Its located right by the strut tower on the left when you open the trunk. Its suspended not on the ground and has blue plastic clip on it. You cant miss it.
