4x4 magazines
I have a subscription to Four Wheeler magazine. Seemed to be better the Petersons 4 Wheel and Offroad. Of course, all of these magazines focus on full size trucks. If they aren't talking themselves into how great full size rigs are, they are talking about jeeps. Actually, I enjoy reading the Jeep tech stuff. It seems that Gr8ride magazines suck even worse.
My question is, which magazines do you prefer? The ones I am reading right now are 90% fluff, and 10% technical. I am not complaining about the lack of import (not to mention Nissan) coverage. This is to be assumed. There just doesn't seem to be much to the magazines besides pretty show trucks. |

yes, they all suck
I fully agree. I picked up Petersen's & couldn't believe some of the stuff I read; it really put me 'n my X in place. The authors are cut from the same stone as the employees at my local 4Wheel Parts.
What we need is a cross between the soft SUV magazine that exists and one of the other off-road mags IMO. |

Four Wheel Drive and Sport Utility has given some attention to the Xterra. A few months ago they showed an instal of an ARB bullbar, and in the August 2001 issue they show the instal of a Calmini 3" lift. What is surprising is that all of the magazines are now giving alot of attention to Toyotas.

90% fluff
Four Wheel Drive and Sport Utility is the most reasonable one I've found so far. There has been attention to the Xterra a few times. And you can generally count on one or two articles that have some actual content. One good issue this year was the one that rated 10 mud tires. There was quantitative measurement in the ratings, not just qualitative. In all of the rags, however, it's hard to seperate the ad copy from the articles. mikeT |

I think this has been mentioned before, but the August issue of 4WD&SU has a nice piece on the Calmini X lift installation.
Anyone else notice the pic shows the X with an ARB on it instead of the Calmini bumper? It has the Calmini roof rack and skids on it though. Wonder what the folks at Calmini think of that... Then the boneheads at 4WD&SU go and put 16x8" rims on it, oy! The same wheel is available in a 15x7 and a 15x8. Brent |
