Unhappy HELP!!! 99 Dodge Ram 2500 Transmission

I bought a 99 dodge ram 2500 5.9 V8 6 monthes ago has 110000 miles, I am having some transmission problems. Between first and second gear the RPM's go to over 3200 before it shifts, and going up steep hills also between first and second the transmission downshifts quickly propelling the RPM's over 3500. I bought the truck to a dealer and they told me i needed a Governer PSI sensor, CLutch Fan and Solenoid, I have heard that the clutch fan controls the temp of the trany fluid, but have also read in other posts that some valve in the coolant lines could be affecting this. I have also gotten the suggestion to change the transmission fluid first. Any suggestions, and anyone have simmilar problems?????
Thanks

Re: Re: HELP!!! 99 Dodge Ram 2500 Transmission

Back again, I went to a transmission repair shop today and he told me that the dodge dealer was nuts and that 2nd gear was gone and that the entire tranny needs to be rebuilt. His thought seems to make sense, but i think that the dodge dealer would have more experience in detecting problems and fixing them. Any Ideas who should i beleive? The option of relacing the shift solenoid sounds very logical too? PLEASE HELP?????

Re: HELP!!! 99 Dodge Ram 2500 Transmission

My truck would start in 1st fine and then would feel like I shifted it into neutral and then put it into into gear again. It would shift in and out about three times and then it would be fine. I also had trouble with my torque converter lock up slipping. Replaced converter and then solenoid. No problems for the last 15000 miles.

My truck just seems to be shifting at high RPMs. I start going forward and the first time it shifts is at roughly 3200 rpm. It seems like it could be some part that needs to be replaced, but also missing second gear makes sense to me. I think im going to contact the dodge dealer and tell them about my second opinion. I do trust the dealer over a private transmission place, but am not quite sure.

I'd think it's worth putting in the cheap part rather than paying for the transmission rebuild that might not be needed. In this case, I'd try the dealer's recommendation first.

I bought a 2001 ram 1500 quad cab long box 4WD 5.7L Automatic with 78,000 miles on 1/3/05, and have not had it run right for more than two full weeks since. the engine, steering, brakes, etc. are fine, but the transmission feels like it is about ready to fall out. When first startingh out, first gesr is fine, although it seems a bit sluggish. then i seems to search for 2nd. Once i really jumped on it, it shifted to 2nd, 3rd, back to 2nd, and then wouldn shift out of first, unless i used the lever. this was when they replaced the governor plate thingy. It has been to two different dealers, and has has an overdrive sensor, and a governor pressure plate(?) and another kind of sensor installed. the first time it was opened up under my ownership, (9 days after i took delivery), they found a small piece of a retainer clip. I am Looking into what legal options i have, as i have not been able to drive this thing for more than 1/2 of the time i have owned it. PLEASE!!!! email if you have any sort of similar story, because i would like to have more backup in case i go to court with this, and i would also be more than happy to help you in any way. please email! Good Luck! BUY CHEVY!

Re: HELP!!! 99 Dodge Ram 2500 Transmission

If you have slipping in second gear, try adjusting your intermediate band, there's an adjustment screw on the side of the transmission, driver's side. I'd recommend removing your tranny oil pan and as you tighten the band, have a feeler gauge, if you don't have one, get a piece of paper; if the paper can slid in just fine w/o much resistance, the band is adjusted properly. If it's too loose, adjust the band a little bit more. If it's too tight, back the adjustment off some so that you don't break the band and no longer have 2nd gear; then you'll have to rebuild.

Re: HELP!!! 99 Dodge Ram 2500 Transmission

I have seen lots of 98-01 rams with bad 2nd bands. struts busting or the friction lining just plain wearing out. High RPM shift sounds like no 2ndto me, try counting the shifts you sould have 4. Good luck.
